Our Wedding Day

Wow! It’s been awhile. I feel like I’ve been living on cloud nine for a bit. Cameron and I got married on June 22 in Clinton, North Carolina and as of yesterday, we’ve been married for one month. It’s hard to believe it’s been a month already! We are loving married life so much. In celebration of one month of marriage yesterday, I wanted to share the details from our big day.

Cameron and I were engaged on May 12, 2018, and from that moment, the planning began.

From the moment we started to plan, I knew that I wanted to have a hometown church wedding. Our ceremony was at my home church, Grove Park Baptist Church, in Clinton and it was everything I dreamed it would be.

The girls got ready at my parents’ home and the guys got ready at mine and Cameron’s home. I gave Cameron a Nixon watch with a leather band that can be found here.

My something old was my garter. It was made out of my mama’s wedding dress. This was a surprise to me and it was so special! My something blue was a handkerchief made out of Cameron’s “coming home from the hospital” outfit when he was a baby. This was also a surprise to me and I definitely cried when Cameron’s mom gave it to me. My veil is the Elizabeth veil from YuriCWeddingShoppe. I was extremely satisfied with the material and quality! We did a traditional unity candle lighting at our wedding and we had multiple soloists involved in our ceremony.

Before Cameron and I were engaged, we had already discussed having our wedding reception in my mom and dad’s backyard. I couldn’t imagine celebrating with our friends and family anywhere else than at my family home. So as we had planned, that dream became a reality for us on June 22.

Our wedding colors, florals, and details were inspired my many things. I love the 1920s and one of my favorite authors, F. Scott Fitzgerald was such an influence during this era. One of his most renowned novels, The Great Gatsby, has proven to be one of my favorites. While I did not want a full 1920s event, I did want our reception to be sprinkled with details of this era. From the embellishments on my dress to the Model-T, I hope our extravagant lawn party was one in which Fitzgerald would have approved.

Our most prized detail of our entire day probably took no one by surprise. There’s no way we could have gotten married without having Nixon involved. Not only did he walk down the aisle (and jump in a random guest’s lap), but he even got to be in our photos. We will always be grateful that we included him!

We are truly so thankful to our family and friends who celebrated this special day with us. It was all we dreamed it would be and more.
